I can't receive text messages from iPhone users on my Samsung Galaxy S III?

I previously had an iPhone 4S and I had I used iMessage on my iPhone. I sold my iPhone to get my Galaxy S III but when I sold it I restored it but I didn't turn off iMessage so now all iPhone texts go to my iMessage account but I don't have an iPhone so how can I get them. I have tried to deactivate my old iPhone and deactivate my icloud account. I even called apple and told them and the said to reset my password and even that hasn't worked. I please I need help thank you.

Are they texting your phone number? I message automatically converts sms messages to I message IF the sms receiver has I message. If not, it sends it as a regular text message. So be sure they are sending SMS messages to your phone number (even if you have to manually type in the number)

I still have the iphone i previously used and it gets all the imessages from people but it just doesn't go directly to my galaxy s8. Is there something i have to do to fix this?
