I want to buy an iPhone 5 from the apple store in New York?

Well hear me out please, i'd like to buy the new iPhone 5 in the US and the thing is i don't know if it's going to work anywhere i go in the world, i'm currently using an iPhone 4 and it's been working great anywhere i go in the world, it supports all SIM Cards, now what i'd like to know (please answer only if you're certain) is will the iPhone 5 that i'll buy from the apple store also work world wide and support all carriers' SIM card?
