I will be bringing a brand new Iphone 8 into the UK when I'm on holiday there, will I have to pay duty for it? - 1

I will be visiting the UK for 3 weeks soon and I will be taking the brand new Iphone 8 that I have now with me, will I be charged duty on it? I'm not British.

Do I have to declare it and if I do, why do I have to declare it?

Added (1). The phone is in the box, un opened, it is a present for my girlfriend in Belgium. Which is where I will be going after the UK. The box is still sealed.

Yes - you have to declare it.
No - you won't be charged duty if you still have the phone with you when you leave the USA.

You have to declare it to prove that you aren't importing it to the UK to sell.

You don't have to do anything.
If it's the o my phone you are carrying and it's filled with contacts, pics etc. It will be obvious it's your phone and you won't be selling it.
Just carry it on you and not worry about it.

If it's your phone - no, you don't have to declare it

Not unless you bring it in the box with all the wrapping still on it.

This might be helpful: https://www.gov.uk/...er-control

When you enter some other country you can be asked what you have with you and are expected to show it if necessary.
Is this item allowed? YES
Will you be charged an import fee of Tax or Duty? Usually NO.

Will it work in UK? Maybe.
Will your home Phone provider charge extra Fees while you use it? Maybe.

If it appears you may be selling it, giving it away or intending to leave it behind they MIGHT ask for a payment. This payment would be refunded when you EXIT the UK with your item.

Why do I have to declare it? WHY because all are expected to declare EVERYTHING at the Customs point.

You are allowed to have many things. Most times you will not be asked for a detailed list of items. ANYONE at ANYTIME can get a more thorough inspection of their stuff for many reasons.
For the honest person this is a minor delay in your journey.

Passing a security check point to take it on a plane is an issue of the Airline and Air Security.

You do not have to declare personal property that will go with you when you exit the country.

No duty and you don't declare it

Go with you when you exit the country.

  • My brand new iphone won't show up on itunes when I plug it into the computer? I just bought a brand new iphone 4. I want to put my music on it. I signed into my itunes account on the computer and on the iphone. I plugged the phone into the computer, opened itunes, and it doesn't detect my iphone. What do I do? And please, don't refer me to the Apple support system. I've already tried it, it's useless.
