I will be bringing a brand new Iphone 8 into the UK when I'm on holiday there, will I have to pay duty for it?

I will be visiting the UK for 3 weeks soon and I will be taking the brand new Iphone 8 that I have now with me, will I be charged duty on it? I'm not British.

If it really is "brand new" - ie. Still in the original packaging and unused; then you need to prove you aren't importing it.

If it is unlocked and you are not from the EU get a UK pay as you go sim while you are here as it will be much cheaper iPhones eat data on their own.

Personal property that accompanies you when you enter and again when you leave is not subject to any duties or taxes.

Note that HMRC may make a list of certain items that you are bringing with you into the country. You will be required to show them to the inspectors when you leave. If you don't have them in your possession for ANY reason (including theft or damaged beyond repair) then you will be subject to VAT at the standard rate and any import duties.
