If I buy an iPhone 5 on 3 will I get 4g when it is released?

Looking to upgrade my contract with three, if I get the iPhone 5 will I get access to their 4g network when it is up?

I think they are having to wait for the frequency sale next year and the current iphone5s will not work on it. It is said they're will be a uk iPhone5 released nearer the time. I did hear 3 bought a small amount of frequency from EE that would make it work but they haven't said anything about it.

3, as you know, have not yet released a 4G contract. The iPhone 5 is 4G ready, so it can handle 4G when it comes with 3. The answer to your question is yes.

N.b.look at the specification on Apple Website, if it says 4G (which it does), it can have it when a network has it avaliable

Since the iPhone 5 supports lte, you will be able to use it.

The phone has to support 4G *and* support 4G on the right frequency.

The 4G network launched by EE in the UK works on 1, 800MHz. The iPhone 5 Model A1429 (GSM model) supports 4G on 1, 800MHz and will work with EE's 4G network.

There's going to be an auction of 4G frequencies in the UK in early 2013. The frequencies that will be auctioned are 800 MHz and 2.6 GHz. 3 will obviously need to bid for one or both of these frequencies so their 4G network will use one of these frequencies.

A quick review of the iPhone spec shows that currently launched models do not support either the 800MHz or 2.6GHz frequencies. Obviously Apple will launch a new iPhone5 model that does support both these frequencies when 3 and the other UK operators launch their 4G networks towards the middle of 2013.

However, buying an iPhone 5 *today* will not buy you a phone that is compatible with 3's 4G network.
