If I pay upfront for an iPhone 5s on contract, will I get my money back?
I'm confused as to how this works, many carriers state a price of over 200 pounds upfront for 2 year contracts that are already very expensive. If I pay the upfront cost will I get it back and if so when?
You will not get the upfront cost back, as it goes towards the full cost of the phone.
The upfront cost is similar to a first payment on a loan, as the full cost of the cell phone is spread out over the course of the contract, part of why contract plans tend to cost more than prepaid ones do.
When the contract is complete, the phone will be paid off and will be yours to keep.
No, of course you won't. The iPhone is insanely expensive considering it is old technology. The cost is the upfront cost plus the monthly contract charge.
You have several options. At one extreme is buying the phone unlocked and without a contract, in which case you'll pay the full price of the phone up front. At the other extreme is signing a long-term, relatively fancy cell contract, in which case you might be able to get the phone for practically nothing up front. Then there's the middle ground, where you pay less up front than an unlocked phone without a contract, but you still pay a substantial amount of money up front-but the monthly subscription costs less and/or the contract isn't as long.
One way or another, you're paying full price for the phone, either up front or over period of months or years. There are lots of plans available, so shop around.

- Should I buy an iPhone on a plan or should I pay for the full price upfront? What are pros and cons? To be honest I want to pay for it upfront because buying it on a plan feels like I'm just renting it. I want to feel like I actually own the phone. But everyone in my family is on a plan and they say it's cheaper because they get free texts and stuff. I don't know what to do? I know, first world problems but please help me. Plan or upfront?
