If you buy an iPhone 5 from America would it work in England?

I've been wanting to have an iPhone but the latest one is quite expensive in UK so I was thinking on buy it from America because its much more cheaper. I have family in america n used to live there myself. When you buy a package online at apple for i phone 5 you have to be with a network.

Is it possible to get an iPhone and stop the network and ship it to UK?

Please all the PROS Help ME!

Probably not. Systems are different, as well as the power to recharge the battery.

A) it will be locked to the US network that sells it
(and they will not be unlocking it)

b) it is not cheaper in the US, all the prices you are seeing are
- with an expensive 24 month contract
(and you can get it for 59 pounds in UK like that)
- without sales tax… Att 10-15%
- without UK import duty and VAT (add duty - probably 5% and 20% VAT on top of that)
So ad about 30% to the price

Oh, and you will need a US Social Security ID to prove you are a resident, and even then pass a US credit check (which if you have no credit history in the US… )

Think it out also,
you still have to pay for a contract in the UK,
so UK contract + iPhone in UK will be cheaper than buying separately.

and one more thing, US is a long way back to take for your 90 days warrenty.

Oh, remember that last year they announced the 4S,
and then there were massive shipping delays - its already happening again
so any order in the US will probably have a long shipping delay too.

Nope. In USA its cheap because they come as upgrade for Sprint and all. They might charge you tax even. In Amazon its around 645 but its unlocked version where you can use it with any network. Hope this helps.

  • Will my iPhone camera and apps work in England? I'm going to England for 2 weeks on Tuesday and was wondering if the camera and apps will all work. I don't care about the phone or texting part. Its an iPhone 5 and I have Verizon btw. I'd like to put pictures on Facebook and Twitter/update status/tweet etc. From my phone as well without having to use a computer.
  • Will my iPhone 4 work in England? I'm going overseas this summer and fall for studying, and was wondering if I can have a contract over there, keeping my same iPhone. My carrier is Verizon.
  • Will an Iphone 5 that i buy in America, work fully in Australia? - 2 So if i buy an Iphone 5 UNLOCKED in America, will it still be fully functional in Australia with any Aussie carrier without jailbreak? Apparently there's different voltages in America then Australia so i wouldnt be able to charge it?
  • Why are iPhones so much more expensive in england than america? I was just browsing around on the Apple site, and I was having a look at the iPhone 5 when I realised that I was on Apple USA site not the UK, and switched to the UK site. The iPhone 5 on the US site said from $199 but when I went on the UK site it said from £529! That is like $788 dollars! Why the hell is the iPhone 5 (and basically any iPhone model/apple product) so much more expensive in the UK? 199 dollars and 788 dollars is a huge difference.
