If you buy an iPhone in America, can you use it to get service in Japan?

And vice versa? I'm moving to Japan and i'm wondering if i should wait to go there to buy an iphone 5, but then they might not let me trade in my iphone 4 which is from America.

Only if its unlocked and the network band in japan matches the device's compatibility… And you should find someone in the black market willing to do a trade… Hope this helps.

If the iPhone is unlocked, then it will work overseas. But to be safe, buy the iPhone in country. Don't buy it here and then take it abroad.

An Iphone s where I live costs around $600.In America it costs around $199 plus a $70 year contract so it seems more reasonable to order it online from America. If I order it from America what would I need to do and what should I know before ordering an Iphone from America and using it in another country?
