I'm such a idiot i bought a icloud locked iphone what should i say to the owner?

I bought it like 4 months ago the iphone has a icloud lock so i can't get passed the activation screen. But it does say this phone is lost please call (their is a number listed) i been texting the number all day but no text back so i called and discored its a land line number. They didn't answer i'm going to call them back. What should i expect will they be mad at me and curse me out will they want the phone back its a old iphone 4s with a cracked screen i paid 30$ for. Will they offer me 30 dollar to get their phone back. I'm kind of scared should i just not call them i'm pretty sure they got a new phone by now. And just trash the phone i have now. What would you do! P.s the icloud does not belong to the stranger i bought the phone from i guess he found it amd sold it to me.

You should have checked to make sure its not icloud locked before paying, its easy to verify. Someone scammed you because obviously they knew it was icloud locked. I would just forget it at this point, it was probably lost long before you got it and its been 4 months since you got it, just move on.

It's a stolen phone, and you've received stolen goods, which is a felony in most jurisdictions. Turn it in to the police and tell them you found it. Nobody is going to offer you money for a stolen phone.
