Intermittent connection errors on multiple devices?

I've been having issues with the wireless internet going out repeatedly on multiple devices. When I run the windows troubleshooter, it says the default gateway is not available. The troubleshooter resets the wireless, which seems to fix the problem but it recurrs within a couple of minutes. This occurs both on a Windows 7 and Windows 8 laptop. My iphone and kindle will also experience network problems at the same time. The devices don't all go offline at the exact same time, but there seem to be "bad periods" where they'll all experience issues - usually going down within minutes of each other. I don't have control over the router so I can't check what's going on there. Nor is my place set up to allow a wired connection.

What could be going on here?

Added (1).

Added (2). My signal strength is good. Management doesn't really know anything about the router beyond "turn it off and back on". I'd need something specific that I could tell him to check for. Turning it off and back on does seem to fix the problem for a few days, though, when I can get a hold of him to do it.

Added (3). It's a duplex, not a big building. We do own a lot of devices between the manager (one side) and me and my roommate (other side). But it's still only providing Wi-Fi to a single house that's been split into two units. I know we don't have anyone doing big downloads, though.

I can take all but one of my devices offline when my roommates are out and the error will still occur. It goes down like this about once a week.

If you don't have control over the routers, you will have to find someone who does. It sounds like you might be too far away to connect to the wireless router. Try one device at a time. In windows, you can see your signal strength.

Other possible reasons are: too many devices connected at the same time, the router is old and using an older technology like 802.11b, the router is not working correctly, going bad, overheating, too much interference with other neighboring access points (routers).

There's no way for us to tell or for you to tell.

It could be that the wireless wireless is flaky, overheating, failing, or bad at surviving error conditions. It could also be overloaded. Somebody else could be downloading movies of something.

The router's IP address could be being attacked by outside hackers trying to find a way in to subvert PCs on the network or just for fun as a denial of service attack. Sometimes this happens at our house. My husband can tell with some kind of net monitor or by logging into the router or something.

The internet provider's closest DNS service or gateway could be rebooting occasionally or having problems itself. Just because the error says gateway does not mean this is the problem. You local gateway to the network may be the wireless router or the box it connects to (if any).

And just in general, the internet does not work perfectly all of the time.

If it continues to happen then the manager should consider asking his internet provider to replace the cable modem or whatever is providing the internet. However if the manager is illegally providing Wi-Fi to a bunch of apartments he may not want to do that.

  • Why is my Facebook account logged onto multiple devices? I was just randomly checking my account settings and was looking at devices that are logged onto my Facebook and it shows multiple devices, all from iphone 7plus which is what I have. This might be a stupid question, but wouldn't it just say iphone 7plus once if my phone is the only one logged onto Facebook? On my account settings, it shows 5 other iPhone 7 plus. Does this mean someone else is using my Facebook? I'm just really confused.
  • What's the best resolution for an app to support multiple devices? I'm developing my first cross-platform game. I need a base resolution and aspect ratio in which to develop my game. I know how to scale it to work on most devices, but need a sensible base resolution. I could do anything from the 320x480 old iPhone display to 1080x1920, but I want my first release to be on Android and I want most devices to be able to play it.
  • Snapchat errors, sending picture? I have an Iphone 4S (updated iOS 6.1.2) & was trying to snapchat my boyfriend on his Ipad, & I'd send a picture, it'd say it was delievered, but he swore he couldn't open them. I sent my sister a snapchat, & she opened it fine. She has an Iphone too. I can't tell if its my iphone that won't send to his ipad? Or his ipad is messing up? I sent another friend a snapchat, it said it was delievered, but she couldnt get it either. She has an android.
  • Sharing iTunes Between Multiple Devices? So I've had an iPod for the last several years and now my parents and I are getting our first batch of iPhones. All of my music in my library has been kept on one computer and the computer is getting old. I was wondering if we all 3 make new iTunes accounts, can we all 3 still get certain songs off of the main computer? All commments are welcomed!
