Iphone 4 fell in toilet. Fix?

I was straightening up my bathroom, when I put my straightening iron, i knocked my fabric softer off the washer, it fell between the toilet and the wall. I leaned over to pick it up and my iPhone fell out of my hoodie pocket and into the toilet. I heard the 'kur-plop' as I put the fabric softer up, I looked down and saw my iPhone sitting in the toilet water. I freaked and snatched it up, shaking the hell out of it as I ran to grab a towel. I would say it was in water anywhere from 5-10 seconds.

I was home alone and left my phone on the counter and ran to the store, grabbed a bag of uncooked rice and stuffed it in there. I've been taking it and cleaning the rice out of the headphone jack and the charging port every now and then. My boyfriend took it apart when he came home (around the time I got home with the rice) and we've put it in a baggie full of rice, (the main phone back, Sim card, and battery, all separated) its been there since about 5:00 yesterday, it being 11:03 today, I'm having withdrawals, its my only phone and I don't have a back up.

It didn't seem all that soaked when he took it apart and it seems dry now, but I'm not a wiz with screwdrivers or mini screws, so I'm waiting for my wiz boyfriend to come home and I'm thinking about asking him to try and put it back together and see if it fried it. My friend offered to let me use her old iphone that she uses as a backup, but I'm too attached to mine and I'm worried about my pictures. (>.<)

Added (1). It was on, but on the lock screen so it wouldn't turn on or unlock when i grabbed it out.

The only thing you can do is taking it apart and putting it in rice.wait a few days i would personally wait a week to make sure. Then power it on and see if it will work.

Since it was probably running when it fell in the water it probably fried.

Hi, this happened to me 5 months ago.today, my iPhone 4 is still working but the flash light next to the rear camera is permanently turned on. The permanent light has affected my battery but only very slightly.otherwise its still working fine.

1.whatever you do, do not turn your phone on just yet, no matter how dry it seems, no matter how tempted you are. (it WILL still be wet inside and turning it on will fry the motherboard)

2.leaving it in uncooked rice is correct, but what you should do is place your phone in a ziplock bag first, ensure that there's little or no air at all, then dump it into the rice. Now place the container of rice in the sun if you can. If not, thats okay.

3. You should wait at least 72 hours. (i would say longer, maybe 4 days but i know its difficult without a phone) do not keep opening the ziplock bag to check on your phone during this period of time. Just leave it be.

4. After you can wait no longer (waiting for 4-5 days is the safest), try to charge your phone. It should still work, provided that you have not turned on your phone at all since dropping it in water.

good luck!

also, check if your water damage indicator has turned red. The water damage indicator tells you if your iphone 4 is water-damaged beyond repair. If the indicator is not activated there's no problem. Check for the position of the water damage indicator in the link below.

PS, i charged and turned my phone on after about 3 days. It didn't work. I was on the verge of buying a new phone but tried again 1 or 2 days later and it worked.however, for the first week or so, my screen kept going blank. But it is working fine now, except for the rear camera light. My guess is it was still a little wet when i turned it on.so, wait as long as you can!

  • What should I do to make sure my iPhone 4s still works after it fell in the toilet? My iPhone fell in the toilet yesterday and I put it in a bowl of rice for 24 hours. I took it out and charged it and it worked. I want to make sure that it won't glitch and die, so should I keep it in a bowl of rice while charging it for a day? I also noticed that when I was charging it at first, it started heating up… Should I be concerned?
  • My iphone fell into the toilet? I took it out right away and put it in rice, overnight, at first it said "overheated" now it works perfectly except that the home button is broken and the screen has dark spots on it, should i leave it in rice a little longer?
  • My iPhone fell into the toileT After this, my mother put it onto a radiator and it went really hot. I then put it into some uncooked rice. I'm afraid that the heat may have damaged it as it was working after it had been in the water but it won't now. It just won't turn on. It is now in the rice, will it ever work again?
  • My iphone fell in the toilet? So i dropped my phone in the toilet it was completely submerged but i got it right out. It won't stay turned off but besides that everything is working fine. Will it be okay? I'm going on a trip for a week and i'm scared it will die while in on vacation.
