IPhone 4 headphone jack doesn't work

Whenever i plug in some headphones and play music/videos etc. The sound works but it comes out of the speaker instead of through the headphones. I'm upgraded to the latest iOS. Also not too long ago my power/sleep button up top got stuck pushed down and it won't come back up which still hasn't been fixed… Could that be related to the problem? (I'm using Assistive Touch instead of the power/sleep button ) From what i remember… I think the headphone problem came around the same time as when the power button got stuck… Is there anyway i could fix this or should i take it into a store?

It's possible that the power button may have affected the headphone jack, since both are connected to the motherboard. Without seeing the device, however, it's hard to say.

Headphone jacks go out, just like any other part of the device. Especially if used quite frequently. We've seen the jack quit on the iPhone 4 often. It could be a fluke.

Best option would be to go to the Genius Bar (apple.com/retail) and have them take a look. If you're in warranty, they may be able to swap out the device for a new one, or fix it. If you're out of warranty, they'll be able to do the same for a fee.

  • Why won't the headphone jack on my iphone 5 work? I've tried different headphones and none have worked. I discovered that if i push the headphone in really hard and hold it there it will play music. Also i tried blowing into it and it made it play normally for a minute then the music started to fade. If you know any ways to fix it or how much it could cost to fix it that would be great.
  • Why doesn't my right headphone doesn't make sound? I have the iPhone 7 EarPods (not the Bluetooth ones ) They were working just fine until one day I realized that there was no sound coming out of the right side. I already cleaned it but doesn't work. How do I fix this?
  • What is the little hole besides the headphone jack on the iphone 4? Okay i have heard people with att that has an iphone say that if they stick a pin in the hole that a dim card tray will pop out. But my iphone is with sprint so i thought they didn't have sim cards so what will happen if i hit the button. * i'm not trolling this is my first time having anything from apple i'm a android person. * please no smart remarks!
  • Somehow, a huge piece of the headphone jack got stuck in the headphone port, and I can't find any I think the headphone type is just a normal iPhone headphone. So ground, audio, mic and some of the plastic, or whatever it is, around it, got stuck in there, and it's not super deep, probably because it's almost the whole headphone jack, but it's still in there. Someone please help! I can't find anything! It's just the headphone jack tip that got stuck for everyone else! It's a laptop.
