Iphone 5 iMessage to android problem?

My friend used to have an iphone, so Everytime I texted him, it sent as an iMessage. Well he just switched to android and now whenever I text him, it automatically sends an iMessage to his ANDROID and it says message send failure. I tried deleting his contact and adding it back and it still does the same thing. I even turned my phone off and on again.

ps: I'm using iOS 7 if that means anything

Try deleting all of the messages on your and on his phone… Then make him delete your number then delte his number.add them back make him call you first then try to text him. Hope this works!
