IPhone 6, freeing up memory (GB) on my phone?

I have a 16 GB IPhone and have recently been unable to download any updates, apps, or take new pictures because it says I do not have sufficient memory. When I look at my storage space it says I have 9.3 GB used on Photos & Camera. However, under that category it says I only have 1.4 MB in photo steam and 3.8 KB in shared photo stream. Also, when I look at my photo albums, all together I only have 95 pictures so I'm confused where the 9.3 GB is being spent. I looked at my message inbox and I only have messages from 3 people (my phone deletes texts after 30 days) so I don't think it's because of pictures I have there. In addition, according to the memory usage list, the next highest memory "app" I'm using is Facebook messenger which is at 202 MB.

Any suggestions on what I should do or something that would help me with this problem?

The operating system in your phone requires memory. In fact in iPhone 6 and 6s the iOS 9 is really too big to make a 16GB phone practical. It doesn't leave you much room for your own stuff. Next time you buy a phone, get the 64GB version.

However you might be able to free up some memory by doing a restart -- hold down the Sleep/Wake button and Home button at the same time for about 6 seconds. This will shut down and restart your phone without deleting any of your stuff, but it gets rid of any leftover garbage files and data.

Delete any large videos from your phone. Keep as much of the data-bingeing files, photos, large videos, etc on iCloud only. Don't download the "the whole basket" that come in some apps (like the whole US states maps on offline GPS maps, whole books, etc.). Buy more iCloud storage if needed.

Now, after hearing your story, I'm really glad that I got the 128 model (think about it, how many 16s are there in 128?)
