IPhone Insurance - what's the best option?
Several people I know over the course of the next few weeks may be getting a new iPhone (5c or 5s in some cases) and a couple of them I know are going to pay full price for them to keep old grandfathered (and cheaper) monthly plans in place. We were discussing insurance options for them for these and no one has any firm answers.
Obviously if you buy a policy from Verizon or AT&T directly, it's extremely expensive. Applecare does not cover theft or lost phones. So you then hear about third-party companies that will insure your phone like Square Trade, Esurranty, and others, but you can find just as many bad customer reviews about each of these services as you can find good comments. Many renter insurance companies are dropping iPhone coverage (example, State Farm has), as so many claims are filed each year.
So for those of you who have *actually had to use* one of these services… What would you recommend as a good one that covers manufacturer defects, accidental damage AND theft/loss, too, based on your own actual experience?
What i found was that none covers everything. At least in my area. Applecare plus gives two years hardware and two years phone support with two accidentals offered for a $79 for each replacement (this is new pricing for my area).it does not cover theft or loss. Some carriers cover theft and loss but not troubleshooting support with apple as this is paid support. You will just have to check around and choose what is best for you and what is offered in your area. Read the fine print.
- What is the best option for mobile internet for a foreign traveller in the USA? Next month I'm going to make a roadtrip through the USA for 21 days. Now, I'd like to have mobile internet (3G or 4G/LTE) during my whole trip. Preferably about 1 to 2 GB for not more than a total of $50. I'll travel through CA, NV, AZ and FL (start in San Fransisco) and I prefer a sim-only prepaid card. I can't find helpful information on the websites of AT&T, Verizon or T-Mobile. I only can find plans including a phone. I've got an iPhone 5s GSM (A1457).
- What is the best iPhone insurance? I'm going to buy an iPhone 4s and am trying to compare insurance providers before I invest in insurance.
- What is the best insurance for electronics? I accidentally broke my iPhone 5 screen. While, I've been paying $10 each month for insurance coverage, the Ausrion insurance says I need to pay a deductible of $100 to get a replacement. Wtf, thats HALF price of a new one. This isn't a replacement. It's buying a new one.
- Shattered iphone, what would be my best option? I dropped my iphone 4s a couple of days ago and the screen shattered completely, but the actual phone still works. Apple said they can replace it for 200, but my insurance said they would replace it for 170. But I was also thinking, maybe I could just get my screen replaced by one of those vendors in the mall? It would be a little bit cheaper. What would be my best option? Has anyone ever replaced their screen before, I'm worried to let somebody do that, but it might be the best option.
