IPhone modder parental security

Okay so here is the deal, my child wants an iPhone and i would like to give them one but not with totally open internet. Solutions would be, 1) restrict internet in settings 2) maybe install a safe browser 3) give to my child! Yeah!

But its not that simple iPhones can be jailbroken, reset, back dated etc… Anyone who thinks the settings restrictions is enough to stop hormone driven teen is sadly mistaken. My son is extremely tech savy (as am I) so i'm not willing to give him a phone that can lead to all the dark allies the internet has to offer.

So my question does anyone know of a way i could jailbreak then restrict the phone before handing it to my son so that i would know if anything was going on… (Teenagers will be teenagers)

I'm a mom of four, two of whom are teenagers. One just got an iPhone and the other may be in the (very) near future.

First, if your son wants the iPhone then he should respect the rules that come with it. Sit down and discuss them prior to getting the phone. Write down a contract that you both sign, with the rules and the consequences of breaking those rules.

Second, utilize the restrictions. Not only do I have control over my children's phone usage through our service provider (T-Mobile) but the iPhone gives me MORE control over their usage through the restrictions (which is password protected).

Third, I would not jailbreak the iPhone. It voids any warranty, makes it susceptible to viruses and malware and would give your son more ability to get around any restrictions you set.

  • Parental Controls for iPhone? I have an iPhone 4, and my parents said every night at 9:30 my phone will shut off. Is it true? Does my phone completely shut off? Is there any way to get it not to if it does?
  • Parental control on iPod Touch / iPhone? If I'm using someone else's Wi-Fi, can they restrict what websites I visit from their computer? Even if they've never touched my iPod or iPhone? Or do they have to physically access my iPod? Also, can they check my internet history from their computer? If I delete my history can they still see it? I don't want to sound sketchy haha, I'm allowed to use their Wi-Fi but I just don't want them to see what sites I visit.
  • On a iPhone are parental restrictions for the itunes account or on the actual device? If I create a new apple account and sign in will they go away because just for that account? I have a old iPhone 3GS but when got it was like 10 and now 14 and the parent controls won't let me do anything basically and my dad can't remember the passcode he set 4years ago. So just wondering how do we get around them?
  • Is there a parental safety mode for the iPhone you tube app? I know how to turn it off but want to know how to put iPhone in safety mode for app. I can find out how for a PC but not for you tube app.
