Is 256gb flash ok for a macbook pro for an iphone/ipad user going to college?
I have an iphone 5 32gb and the newest ipad with 32gb both almost full maybe 9gb left on each and want to buy a new macbook pro w/ retina. Looked at the prices to upgrade storage since it only comes with 128gb and i know thats definitely not enough but I was probably going to go with 256gb flash since 512 is out of my price range.
So anyways would 256gb be enough? I know OS takes up about 20gb and my devices will be another 60gb or so which leaves me to around 160-170ish and I'm also going to Penn State as an Industrial Engineer. Any thoughts? Is this enough space? I also don't make that many videos nor use any programs that take up a lot of space but i do like to buy and download loads of apps, fyi.
Point of video: upgrade your macbook yourself, instead of paying a premium to have apple do it.
It should be fine if you don't put videos on it. Also you can always get a external hard drive if in the future you find that you need more room. You can get 500 gb for $60.
I think you are packing way too much hardware and they wrong type. You should maybe consider a MAC with a HDD rather than flash memory if you are a engineering student. Last time I check CAD drawings were hugh. If you do get the flash memory simply purchase a external hard drive- USB, to back up you work as you go along. The 750GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm is great for you. (see the link below).
Shop smart, you are a student. Don't make cool purchases. Or you will never get your money worth. I think storage is better than retina display in your case. If you have it to burn, go ahead.
As you are not sure whether the storage capacity is enough or not you can get it anyway and if it wasn't enough you can get an external 1 TB hard drive for about 200$

I like the ipad pro (most likely the 12.9) because of the touch, pencil and the app store. I've been told that someone with a keyboard on average will be able to type faster than your typical user who uses a touchpad on their phone; however, I'm able to type at 90 words per minute on my iPhone, which generally reduces to about 75 whenever I type on a keyboard. So, which is the faster method for online chatting overall?
