Added (1). I Just bought my new iphone 6s, the salesman told me to fully charge my phone, not 8 hours, but fully charge after it drops 20%. Unfortunately I plugged in my phones to my laptop to restore backup then the phone charged until 40% and i unplugged it. After the battery drop to 20% and I fully charged it. Is it going to affect anything?
It probably won't be a problem for now, but you might have problems with the battery in the future.
Maybe…
but all rechargeables should be fully charged before use,
as the instructions tell you to do.
Failure to fully charge a battery before it is first used
can shorten its long-term useful life.
Thus you could pay for the impatience you have now
with frustration you would get later,
long after you've forgotten how it all started.
Modern lithium polymer batteries used in all iPhones can be charged as much or as little as you want, whenever you want, and will not suffer any adverse affects whatsoever.
But many years ago nickel cadmium (NiCad) rechargeables were widely used and they could suffer "memory effect" which reduced battery performance rapidly if the battery was not fully discharged each time before fully recharging.
In short, relax. You've done no harm of any kind to the total lifespan of your phone battery.
- What is the best way to charge an iPhone 5s for the first time? I'm getting my first iPhone, a 5s, soon, and I'd like to know what would be the proper way to charge it. I've heard different things from different people lately: charging it on airplane mode, charging it all the way but not using any apps, etc. Is there a proper way to charge it for the first time to make sure the battery doesn't die quickly, or is there a preferred way that anyone has observed? Please let me know.
- What if I didn't charge my iPhone 5 before using when I first got it? So I just got my first iPhone ever and didn't know that you're supposed to charge it for 8h first before beginning to use it. I charged it (even though it looks fully charged) as soon as I got home but as it was charging I sent out a few smses. Anyway so I never took it off the charger but Mum says that cos I already started to use it, it will never work at its optimum anymore. Is that true or is it still safe since I used it while it was still charging?

- Is it alright to charge an iPhone 4 overnight? When my brother had a Samsung phone he charged it overnight and ruined the battery. I read online that its okay to charge apple devices overnight. Based on personal experience is that true?
