Is it possible for an iPhone 5s to crack while charging?

I don't think it's possible for any phone to crack unless you dropped it.

Mine never did. My iPhones have always held up well.

Possible? Yeah. Like any device that uses Lithium Polymer batteries, the batteries will bloat up near the end of their lifespan or if you they've been damaged and you try to charge them. Unplug it NOW. The next thing it does after bloating is vent (spew hot gas, catch fire, explode). While cool in Youtube, it's not so much fun if it happens inside your house.

On a phone with a user removable battery pack, the weakest point in the phone's structure is the battery door's attachment. It's meant to pop off to relieve pressure in the short term if that happens. It's not foolproof though. I'm not saying that a well designed android phone can't have this happen too.

The iPhones (all the way back to the original) have been designed to be disposable, and the battery compartment isn't meant to be user accessible. So, the weakest point in the structure for them is the screen (Gorilla glass isn't really that strong). As such, that's where the bad battery will put pressure on and crack it.

However, this usually only happens with batteries near the end of their lifespan, or batteries that have been damaged by overcharging (eg. You used a cheap aftermarket charger). Abused batteries (eg. You leave it charging all the time, or you "top it up" all the time), sometimes get damaged and exhibit this behaviour too.

Again. This is very important. If this happens, a cracked screen is the least of your worries. Unplug it As soon as possible, because if you keep it charging, the next step after battery bloating is venting (spew hot gas, catch fire, explode).

Also, it doesn't really come up all that often. People usually replace or wreck their phones by accident within 2 years, which is well before this sort of thing becomes a worry.

If you have had any replacements made to it via a 3rd party (IE. Someone other than apple has replaced the screen or battery etc) then absolutely. Battery could swell up and push out the screen.

Of course not, they arent made out of sugar
