Is it right for a teacher to record me?

Basically, I was in this argument with the head, and this deputy head comes behind me. I'll be honest, there was some swearing going on etc. And the dep head pulls out his phone, and starts recording me (I heard the iconic record sound from the iPhone play). I said 'Why you recording me' and he said to show my dad? My parents aren't too happy and neither am I, I'll admit I was being a brat, but can a teacher legally do that?

You were acting like a brat and you are complaining about your behaviour being recorded?

Sounds like you need to grow up. And if your Dad is siding with you then its no wonder you are such an idiot.

Yes, it is completely legal and was appropriate given the circumstances. There's never an expectation of privacy in a public setting. Most schools have CCTV or other security and surveillance recordings anyway. Since your altercation was witnessed by others, it doesn't really matter whether or not you were recorded, but it does provide evidence to support eyewitness accounts. Don't be such a spoiled brat. If you want to swear at people in authority, take responsibility for your actions.

Think of it this way. If another student has recorded this, it would already be on Youtube and Facebook for everyone to see. You are lucky the school is showing constraint.

Your school has the right to monitor you in any way necessary to keep track of you while you are in their care.
usually this is in the agreement your parents signed.
as long as they don't use it for personal goals, such as uploading to YouTube or Facebook, they are within their rights…

Once you step out of your house you give up all reasonable expectations of privacy. Once you are out of your home and car anyone can record you if they want. Furthermore, once on someone else's property you lose even more expectations of privacy and there really isn't much that can be done!
