Is texting and driving illegal?

I hate when people texts and drive or on the phone and drive. Specially in Atlanta you have no idea how carefully I have to drive because people are randomly getting on my lane or just driving crazy and 99.9% of the time they are on the phone. Today I saw a girl from Georgia Tech was braking every 5 secs or just driving all over the lane. I got over and when the red light came I saw her texting on her iphone and picking her nose. She almost hit my car when I got over. With my hands I was like what you doing? She looked at me and kept texting out in the open. I think it's just me but I can't stand when people are using their phone while they are on the road. I have been driving for 3 years and I barley use my phone while I'm on the road. I really wanted her to stop texting and pay attention to the road. Is it illegal to call the police and tell them her tag number and say she was breaking the law? I'm just wondering.

Some states it is. Look up your dmv website for your state.

If she is driving really eraticly and dangerous. If you think she could drive into somebody or injur/kill somebody yes deffinatly call and give tag num

I don't think it is everywhere yet, but hopefully it will be soon. And I hope it is strictly enforced, with a fine high enough that forces texters to take the law seriously. I agree with a lot of the anti-texting and driving ads that I've been seeing lately - there's literally no text that is important enough that can't wait until you get where you're going. I have actually taken phones from friends' hands because they were trying to text while driving and ended up swerving or almost rear-ending someone. I will gladly either drive or compose a text for you if it means we get wherever we're going without incident.

I was once asked, "what if someone was texting me in an emergency?" Well, unless someone doesn't have a voice for whatever reason, I expect a phone call, not a text. And if someone is dying in the hospital, I'm not paying attention to my phone, I'm concentrating on the road making sure I get to the hospital in one piece so I can see my loved one.

It is illegal but dumbass break the law all the time when they know it is illegal and still do it.
