Jailbroken iphone No Service?

I got a phone on ebay that was jailbroken but NOT unlocked. I got a new compatible SIM card but it is not working (phone does not have to be unlocked for straight talk). Now I don't care about the jailbraking and just want a phone that works.

BUT I can't restore on iTunes (the button is gray and I can't click on it)
OR erase all data.

So I want to upgrade to 5.1.1… Will my phone get bricked? I'm running out of options to make this thing work…

  • Will an Apple Store refuse service for a jailbroken iPhone? I have an iPhone 6 with a cracked screen. I have scheduled a Genius Bar appointment to have my phone repaired, however my phone is jailbroken. I know it voids warranty and I don't have warranty to begin with, I'm paying for the repair completely. Since the screen is a hardware thing and wouldn't matter if I was jailbroken or not, I was just curious because I don't want to have wasted my time for them to refuse service to me.
  • Same network, Iphone 5 only receiving Edge service, Iphone 4 receiveing 3g service? Running IOS 6.1.2 on Iphone 5, 6.1 on Iphone 4 Both on O2 Can't get 3g service on iphone 5. Iphone 4 can and they are both in the same room, any ideas why?
  • No service on jailbroken iphone?   • New iPhone won't get service but my older iPhone gets service? I just got a 6s and went to the Verizon store to get my upgrade. I used to have a 5s. My 5s is still getting service and my 6s is not. I turned off cellular data on my 5s and and made sure both data and LTE were working on my 6s but it still isn't working.
