Last date to file tax in USA from INDIA?
Hi
I used to live in USA On student visa (F-1 visa) and pay my taxes as a NON-Resident Alien.
After spending 5 years of my life in USA, I finally decided to return my home country (INDIA). I left US Permanently (on July 27, 2011).
Since 2011 was my 6th year in the US On F-1 status, this was the year that I became a Resident Alien for tax purposes.
My residency status changed on July 2, 2011 (before I left USA). This was the day that I became a Resident Alien for tax purposes as I reached more than 182 days in the US During calendar year 2011(208days).
In 2012, I reverted back to being a Nonresident Alien in the US For tax purposes as I had no presence in the US I never visited US In 2012.
I developed few iPhone Application when I used to live in US (In 2011). APPLE started paying me in 2012 via Wire transfer to my bank account in INDIA. I didn't receive any payment from APPLE before 2012.
Now my questions are:
Q-1:
Do I still need to file my taxes in USA? I'm not in USA from last one and half year.
Can I just pay my taxes in INDIA for income earned by APPLE? Or I need to pay taxes in INDIA and US both.
Q-2:
If I need to file my taxes in USA, what is the last date to file taxes for a NON resident Alien who lives in a foreign country. Is it Jun 15, 2013?
I saw on IRS website that it is Jun 15, 2013 for US Citizens and Resident Aliens. Does the same apply for NON resident Aliens living in foreign country?
Q-3.
If the last date is April 15, 2013 instead of (Jun 15, 2013), Is there a way by which I can pay taxes in year 2014 instead of 2013? April 15, 2013 is too close and I will not be able to mail forms by April 15, 2013 and It will also take time in international mail.
Please reply. I will highly appreciate you if you answer all 3 questions.
June 15.
If Apple withheld 30% for royalty income, no problem. If Apple did NOT, you must file.
You can probably claim a credit on your India tax for taxes owed the USA.
You did sign a W-8BEN with Apple, right? If you left them a W-9, you were supposed to replace it when 1/1/2012.

- Should any tax plan that lowers rates for corporations only give that rate for companies who do business and employ workers in the USA? So, Trump Inc, who manufactures ties in China, gets no tax cut. Neither does Apple because the iPhone is made in China too.
- Is the turbo tax tax caster app accurate? I downloaded the turbo tax, tax caster app for my iPhone. I earned 15k this year, and I'm claiming one child this year (I didn't claim a child last year). When I plugged in my info and hit calculate, it told me my refund would be 7k. Could this be accurate? I've heard of a earned income credit but this seems like a lot more than I expected. Is this app accurate?
- I got a reward, should I file income tax return? I got a total of $1, 134 rewards in 2012 from AppTrailers (iPhone app). Now I don't know if I should pay taxes. I'm single, dependent, living in California. I submitted them a W-9 because they asked for it since I earned more the $600, and so I did. They said that this is a source of income, but they call it "rewards".So, should I file income tax return? If so, this would be my first time. What are the consequences if I didn't file this when I have to just in case?
- How to convert iPhone video's file to mp3 file (.mp3)? For an assignment I had to make a recording of a song and it has to be.mp3; I recorded it on my iPhone as a video but I can't seem to find a way to convert it into.mp3
