My brand new iPhone 7 got water spilled on it and now it has water damage

So before I go into the Apple store today and find out they can't fix it or something, I wanted some advice.
I've literally had this phone for a week because my iPhone 6 was stuck on the apple start-up screen so I had to get a brand new phone.
I feel like they should be held liable for this accident. I was at a show with my boyfriend and my phone was in my purse (a little cross-over purse that only holds credit cards, cash, and a phone) in the side pocket. Someone in the crowd must have spilled their drink on my purse and gotten my phone wet because next thing I know I reach down for my purse and it's wet. (To note: I don't think it was an alcoholic drink or soda or else my purse and phone would have been sticky or smelled, and it wasn't).

I took my phone out and didn't think it was a big deal (since it's supposed to be water-resistant) and just wiped it off on my pants. Later I realized there was water damage. There's a dark line through the middle of my screen and the bottom half is clearly a water mark. Also, the sound is now turning down my itself and the camera is recording.

I just don't understand how it could have been damaged SO easily. It's not right.

I would take it back to the Apple shop and not mention the water damage - they will totally blame you.

I don't think I can just not mention it… Because for one, it's obvious by looking at it that it's water damage. And also I read that there's some type of activation switch that comes on in an iPhone if it's water damage so they would definitely know

Should have gotten AppleCare+. You have no idea how long the phone was wet, if the phone was a refurbished phone rather than brand new, still should have had paid for AppleCare+. If the phone had ever been dropped and any seals were broken, not Apple's fault. Kinda hard to spill a drink in your purse and you not notice it, especially the type of purse it was, and how it was on your body. That in itself sounds suspect.

In any case can't blame Apple because you decided not to get extended warranty or a case. But rather decided to rely on water resistance instead. The fact that you don't know how ling the liquid had been in your purse, means it could have been wet before you slipped the phone into it.

Water resistant or not, the manufacturer's warranty doesn't cover liquid damage so you're out for the cost of repairing the phone.

Apple isn't going to take responsibility if you had your phone in a situation where it could have potentially been damaged by liquid and then was.

  • Spilled water on my iPhone 4s the other day. Now doesn't work? So, the other day i was watching a movie in my house and I knocked over my class of water. There was only ice in it but still it got all over the table. I thought i cleaned it all up but by the end of the movie when I was cleaning up i realized an ice cube must have landed on my phone and melted. So i dried it out and everything but now 2 days later after the battery fully died last night this morning it won't turn on.
  • My iphone got water damage and won't turn on? I dropped my iphone 4s in the toilet earlier and it was probably in the water for 3 seconds at the most. I took my case off and dried it the best i could and shook it to get some of the water out. It was in rice for about 8 hours and I charged it for a little, and the screen won't even turn on, but the flashlight won't turn off.
  • My iPhone 4S has got water damage. It no longer powers on throught the USB cable. What do I do? The phone get stuck in an apple logo loop when connected via USB cable. However when it is connected to the speaker dock it powers on. I have lost cellular, Wi-Fi and bluetooth and really need to get my pictures off it. How can I get the phone to power on via USB cable? I need those pics!
