My factory unlocked iphone 4s doesn't recognize my sim card?
I purchased a used 32GB factory unlocked iPhone 4S on ebay and it will not activate with my t-mobile sim card no matter what I try either on the phone or in itunes. I'm pretty sure the phone is unlocked because I looked up the IMEI number online and it said the phone was unlocked. I did trim the sim card myself so it could fit in the iphone but it still works in my old phone still so I know i didn't damage the sim card. Any help on how to resolve this would be appreciated!
Just because a website says the phone is unlocked does not mean that it is.
You should just go ahead and put the phone in the washing machine.
In case the iPhone was previously locked to Verizon or Sprint, it will not work on other US GSM carriers like T-Mobile, even if it isunlocked as their bands are blocked out. Unfortunately there's no way around this.
Um probably because you can't use T-Mobile with an iPhone. Even if it is unlocked…
The guy above is an idiot. You can use any GSM based carrier with your unlocked iphone. Besides isn't that the whole point of owning an unlocked phone? All you need is a micro sim card. You stated that you trimmed the sim card yourself. Are you sure you maybe didn't trim it too short or unevenly?
Yes it may still work in your other phone, but the sim contacts inside of the iphones sim loader are very sensitive and need to be just spot on with your sim cards circuit board or else it won't read it correctly. Its a lot easier to just buy a micro sim card that way you don't have to risk ruining your current sim card and you get a perfect fit.
However as others said, if it was locked into another carrier, then you are pretty much s.o.l on that. Or if the phone was jailbroken at one point while locked into another carrier before it got an official unlock it could be bricked now and there's nothing you can do about it. I would contact the seller on eBay and explain to situation. You should be able to get a refund since the item was obviously not as described.
