My fish tank light NEVER works?

So I have a fish tank that takes

L288mm
I'm: 400
kWh/1000h = 8
( I hope this means something to somebody, just putting what's on the box)
I think it a 8 inch tube.

Fluorescent tubes and every time I put one on the tank they work bright for about 30
Seconds then just dim down and eventually go off all in about a minuet, I've bought 3 of these all rated 'A' for efficient and they just die straight away, I had a look at the wiring and it looks fine, no soldier has come of the board or the wires and the on off switch seems to be fine, ( there was some slight water in the switch) but even when dried out it still wasn't working right, like I said, it just goes

Dim
Dimmer
More or less off
All in about a minuet
The tubes aren't black although all 3
We're a little rattley when I got them
Home but I've heard that, that isn't a problem for the lights, it's just a bit of zinc I heard but I don't know.

I'm having to resort using my
iPhone torch to see the fish at night which I hate doing because I understand it can hurt the fish's eyes so that's why I need this sorting, anyone help please?

Most likely the ballast or circuitry is burned out, causing the bulbs to burn out. You will probably need to pitch the fixture and buy another one. Maybe you could get an LED style light that would last a lot longer and use less electricity.

When I got it out and dried it with a napkin it was fine, the touch was good, the light was good, everything was fine. I turned it off, and about two hours later the light went dim. It's like almost black. I don't know what to do? Let me remind you that it's old, and it's kinda loose, and it has a few cracks here and there.
