My iphone 5 fell into a glass of water?

I got out of bed and heard a splash. It took me a minute to realize what happened. I immediately powered it off, but it kept turning on and off on its own and the screen went discolored. I stuck it in a bag of rice. It feels hot to the touch and I'm so afraid it's gone. Does it sound like it will work?

Quick what commercials show you put it in a glass of rice lol

Take a bowl of rice and put your phone in the rice it will absorb the water be sure to keep it there for at least 18 hours.

Well, chances are its gone. Rice can take a while to, lets say "absorb" the water. But I would keep it in the rice for a while, keep the phone turned off. If the phone gets too hot while its on, it'll automatically shut down will remain unusable with a message saying its overheating.

Leave it in the rice for 48 hours, If it doesn't turn on after that then It's probably gone. This leaves you with 3 other options.

1) Take it to the apple store and pay them to repair it.
2) Buy a new screen from Ebay and learn how to install it. (This may not work)
3) Take out insurance and claim on your insurance a few months later.

Just incase you want to try option 2 (not guaranteed to work) then here are the links:

The most accurate way to fix it would just be to take it to the apple store and have them fix it.

Be more careful with the replacement.

  • What to do if your iPhone fell in water? I tried the blow dryer approach and now I submerged my phone in a container filled with rice. Is there anything else I can try at this point?
  • What do i do, my iphone fell in water I was brushing my teeth while listening to music from my iphone and it fell in the sink and was completely submerged in water for about a few seconds but i got it out quickly. I turned it off right away and put it in a bowl of wild rice (obvously not cooked) because thats what it said online. Did i do the right thing? Does anyone have any better methods? If the rice is the right idea, how long do i leave my phone in it?
  • My iPhone fell into water I took a blow dryer to it, then I soaked it in a bag of rice. It'll turn on when it's plugged into a wall charger, but it says it needs to be connected to iTunes and be restored, so I plugged it into my laptop and it won't turn on.iTunes won't even pick up my phone to sync or ANYTHING. I need help! I left it in the bag of rice OVER 24 hours.
  • My iPhone fell in water, what should I do? Okay, so its not visibly damaged (the screen has no water on it) and it works fine so far. I turned it off and placed it in a sealed bag with rice. What should I do now? There isn't too much water in the phone. How long should I keep it in the bag? I was thinking 3 hours. Is that too short?
