My iPhone was stolen- can the thief still use it?
Hi, I work as an RN at a hospital in Flint, MI. (not the nicest city in the world!) And after a particularly horrible day today, my iphone was stolen at work. I have an idea of who probably did it- a particularly hostile family member of one of my patients- and I'm wondering whether they can still use the phone. It's an iPhone 4, and my carrier is AT&T. I called the police and AT&T and suspended my number as soon as I realized it was gone. They told me that the phone is locked and can't be used, but I wonder if the person takes out the SIM card and puts it into another phone if they can see my information (contacts, emails, photos, etc.) and if there's anyway they can then use the iPhone. The customer service rep told me that the the phone is locked, but if they take the SIM card out, will it still be locked? (I did have a passcode lock on it, too)
I'd really appreciate any insight anyone can give me on this issue, because I'm pretty concerned about the SIM card in particular. I really hope they aren't able to access my personal info, and especially my contact info.
No the phone can't be used. A SIM doesn't store anything except your phone number and other basic info. No pictures or anything else is on there. YOU are confusing a SIM card with a micro SD card. Apple does not use any removable storage.
Of course, they can. They'll just take out your SIM and put it in a different phone and check the contacts (if there's any) in your SIM. They can also get the phone unlocked and use it with different carrier since the IMEI of the phone has been reported. They can just use the phone as iPod too or sell it. Don't believe anything that AT&T or any carrier says.
if a thief puts in the incorrect passcode for an iphone 5s too mnay times and disables/erases the iphone, can they make a new account and use my iphone? Like switch my sim card with theirs? This was my money used to buy the phone and i dont want someonebeing able to reuse it

- What can a thief do to an iPhone 5 if it has? If it has a password lock on my phone, has been updated to iOS7 and has been blocked by my service provider? Is there any way they can break in and view all of my stuff, also it was dead when stolen so would they even chance charging the phone up when it's still in their possession? And can they wipe my phone, even if they don't have my icloud password?
