Need to know before I buy an Iphone

My iPod broke. I'm not sure if it can get fixed, but I'm going to try. If it can't be fixed, I need a knew one. I was wondering if I buy an Iphone without service, so i can't call or text and use it as a regular ipod, will I have to pay for data? I was thinking about getting service in a year or two, but until then, I need an ipod because we use apple products at school but I don't want an Ipad.

If you buy an iphone outright or second hand you might just need a sim card but won't require credit

Its cheaper to get 2nd hand just a bit more risky

I would just get an ipod touch if you won't use service for a year or two, you can use imessage, facetime, apps, etc all with that without a data plan.

If you take your iPod to the apple store they will fix it for free! If it's not to bad, but I do think you can use an iPhone as an iPod because I got a new phone and gave my old iPhone to my daughter and she doesn't have service and uses games and music and it works fine

You can get an iPhone without a cell phone contract but depending on what version you get they are still going to be a very high price. Probably over $350. The reason they are cheaper this a contract is because the phone company is paying the rest. If you did get one you could text on it but only iMessage and other texting apps. You would need Wi-Fi though. Also since you would only be able to use Wi-Fi on it and no cellular data you would not have to pay a data plan. Hope this helps.
