Nokia Lumia 1020 white noise instead of sound when recording?

I bought a Nokia Lumia 1020 and I'm amazed with it so far. Personally I like it more than my old iPhone. But just a few moments ago I decided to record a video for the first time. The picture is really good, but instead of getting any recorded sound, there's like white noise instead of anything else.Am I doing something wrong?

  • When I sing I sound good in my head but on recording it doesn't sound as good? I understand why this is but I want to know if it is because my iPhone recording quality isn't good. If not how do I actually listen to how others hear me sing.
  • Should i keep my lumia 1020? I love the camera and apps aren't really a big deal to me, however I miss my iPhone a little and I don't know if I should just go back or not. I mean windows phone 8 is cool but its got quirks that my iPhone didn't have. I've had it for 2 days and I don't know if I should give it more time or not.
