IPhone 4 activation not working

I bought an iPhone 4 from my friend today. He reset the phone. Now after I pick my location, and connect to Wi-Fi, it says "Activation request could not be completed. If the problem persists, please contact customer care." I believe it it saying that because i did not put a sim card it. But since the phone is AT&T, and i have t-mobile, i wanted to unlock it first before getting a micro sim card. But if i get a used AT&T sim card and put it in, will it activate my phone? Or should i just get a t-mobile micro sim card it activate it that way if it would work… Also, since i'm not the original owner, i did not purchase the phone, will it ask me for information when i activate it (ex: email, address, ect.)?

Also, i tried hacktivaing (activating) the phone with sn0wbreeze, but that didn't work. I have 6.1.3 if that matters.

Would 1GB of data be enough for my needs?

I have it on iPhone and Xbox, I've tried the pc gamer demo, and a friend of mine gave me a copy (which was a cracked version and I didn't know about it, till now)

Whenever I play it on the xbox, it seems slow just to get started and all. I got bored of it, with friends its fun, but I don't have membership anymore and don't plan on renewing it.

I'm interested in trying to play on servers, with mods and with friends.
