Possible to unlock iPhone 4s?

So, my friend is giving me her old iPhone 4s that she used with either at & t or verizon.zCan she just give it to me and I can unlock it and use it with Straight twlk or some other cheaper service? I know thst i will need to buy the sim card!

Well you will need a sim card haha, but if you wanna unlock it and stuff you need to reset it, it shoul be in the settings, but if you can't, make sure there's iTunes on your laptop and follow these steps
1) turn off the phone and start up iTunes
2) hold Down the home button and unlock button until it turns on and as soon as it turns on plug it into the computer.
3) the computer should come up with a message saying "are you sure you want to reset?" or somethin like that, click yes.
4) the iPhone will automatically update but with your permission, you will need a good Internet connection
5) continue with what's happening on the computer and it should be fine.
