Recording guitar playing on iPhone?
I frequently record myself playing guitar on my iPhone camera with audio. It serves as a way for me to pick out my mistakes and correct them. Obviously I know the quality isn't going to be great, but recently I've noticed the sound recording normally for a few seconds and then suddenly it becomes the weird compressed sound with a sort of static screech in the background. I have no clue what is going on. I do usually play heavily distorted guitar (heavy metal etc). Could someone please help out with this?
Get a portable digital recorder.
A very good one is the Tascam DR-05,
which would cost you about $100.
The phone is probably limiting the sound because it is WAY too loud for the phone to handle. This is common and the only thing you can do is move the phone away from your amp or download some better software that allows you to control the mic gain (volume). There are also studio quality mics for the iPhone
- When tuning a guitar do you hold a fret? When you tune an acoustic guitar do you have to hold a fret down while you tune? When i tune to drop c or standard do i have to hold any of the frets or do i leave the strings open while i tune? I have an iphone app tuner if it helps Thanks, I was doing it right then. My high e string never gets picked up.
