Its a red light and it might mean its broken

That means it's unable to make it's 'upstream' connection to the iSP.
It could be that the iSP log in values have been 'forgotten' (your account username and password), or;
there's a problem with the lines to the iSP, or;
the iSP is down for whatever reason.

Try the first repair option.
To start, with power to the modem, connect a CAT5 cable from a computer to the modem, and plug in the Internet wire in the slot (it's just like a telephone jack).
Open a browser;
In the address bar (the top line), type " 192.168.1.1 " (no quotes, yours may be different);
This should present an interface for the administration of the modem.

Find the 'Connections' (perhaps 'Profile'?) for entering the ISP information.

You'll want to create a 'new' profile, or connection; and perhaps the type of connection (PPPoE);

Somewhere (modems interfaces can vary) you'll find your "Username" and account "Password" which your ISP supplied to you: enter those values in the correct slots.
Again, modems vary, but you may have to "Apply", or "create" (in essence make) this new "default" account.
Some modems auto connect; some have to be told to "Connect", with perhaps a radio button. Do so if you see the button.
Also in this interface (perhaps in "settings"), you'll likely want to tell the modem to "stay connected", or "always connected"… Some setting to prevent a disconnect if there's no Internet activity.
If this interface also has the option, you may want to "Save" all of these new profile values, so you can re-establish them without having to dig out your information from other sources.

OK out, & connect the CAT5 cable to your router (or leave your computer connected) and test a few Internet sites to verify the modem is indeed on the Internet.
