Remove DRM from itunes (Mac OSX Snow Leopard)?

I moved from an Iphone to a galaxy nexus. Almost everything I bought on Itunes refuses to transfer due to DRM. I've tried Requiem to no success, FairPlay didn't work either. I don't have a ton of CDs sitting around so is there another way to remove this?

I also do not want to spend $35 on some of this software that allows a "free trial" for songs less than 3 minutes long.

Please Help. Apple is a cruel cult that is trying to suck me back in

There are free programs that do this on the PC. But what they actually do is to play the music and re-record it. You can do that with a free recording program. Connect the headphone jack of the iPhone to the line-in of the Mac, play the music, record it on the Mac and compress to MP3.It's a pain in the neck but that's what you get for buying DRM media.

Apple has consistently argued against the use of DRM but the music and movie companies have insisted on it being included.

Music from the iTunes has been available DRM free for several years. If you have older copies with DRM you can re-download a fresh DRM free version.

Do you sign up the iTunes Match? If so, you can use it to replace the DRM-locked music tracks with plain music files. Here is an article which show how to do this http://ifiresoft.com/drmtips/strip-drm-from-protected-aac-audio.html. Hope it helps.
