Should i switch from Windows to Mac?

I'm thinking of buying a Macbook, it's expensive, but at-least I enjoy the liberty of knowing I won't be catching any viruses. I heard it's faster and more stable, and can connect fluently with other apple products (have an iPhone 5).

What i want to know is, what are the downsides?

There's really no downside.
Yes it's expensive, yet worth the money.
It is a beast when handling media!
Super fast and high graphics!
Along with easy managing. You should get one! You won't regret!

Out of its little world (mac world that is) it isn't compatible with many softwares, you can't upgrade it…

The largest downsize of the Mac OS is that it is not compatible with a lot of Windows Software. Most games for example, only support windows for some reason. Another small difference is Mac is a much tighter system than Windows PCs, making it harder to fix things when they break. Mac has a lot of perks though, as you said it is much faster than windows and generally better.

Basically, if you want to play games or use a lot of applications, stick with Windows. If you just like to browse the internet, do school, Photo editing e.t.c, go with Mac.

I enjoy products from both sides, I'll take my iphone 5 over a galaxy S3 any day. But it really depends on what you plan to do with your computer. Keep in mind, though, that clicking on a link with malicious content can bring a virus to either Operating System. Not sure where you heard Apple products can't get viruses, but that is flagrantly false. If it didn't, Norton for Mac wouldn't sell millions of copies per year. Windows fails to automatically include Microsoft Security Essentials in the Windows installation, but can be retrieved for free online and offers the same safeguards in place on the Apple OS.

Apple products excel at integration with other Apple products, have what many consider a friendlier interface (Windows 8 was designed for tablets and is inconvenient for laptop users), and Macbook's generally have sturdier construction than their PC counterparts.

However, that comes at a premium price. They use intel processors just like many PCs, and a mobile i5 or i7 won't run any faster in a white Apple case than it will in a silver Sony case. Study after study has shown that Windows 7 and Mountain Lion are very similar in performance when using the same components, and that has tipped in Windows favor with Windows 8. And you typically get much more for your dollar for components with a PC than a Macbook. My girlfriend's Macbook Pro is much faster than my $350 HP laptop I use for travel (I built a desktop, but it would be unfair to compare its speed to a laptop), but her Macbook is much slower than my friend's $1000 beast of a laptop from Samsung. And he paid less.

It really depends on what you plan to do with it. If you play a lot of games, you should not consider leaving the Windows platform, as Apple fails to put out a viable gaming computer under $2000. However, if you have an iphone and ipad and plan to travel a lot, you may not mind the price premium for a Macbook.

Just keep in mind that you are paying for a brand, and making a cultural statement, as opposed to actually putting money towards quality components or compatibility with most software/games/products. Don't fall victim to mindless people like Rayquaza, who spouts biased nonsense. "Super Fast and high graphics!"… Really? With what graphics card. Most Macbook's use intel's integrated graphics, which studder on even low-spec tasks using the GPU. A half-eaten Apple on the back won't change that no matter how many times it is repeated, only a card that says Nvidia or Radeon will.

  • Should I get a Windows 8 PC or Mac? Should I get a Windows 8 PC or a Mac OS X (I like both OS). I will be using Skype, Office, Games and web browsing. I currently had an iPad and iPhone and I don't care about sync. I will also do lots of Photo and Video editing.
  • Reset a Mac with windows keyboard? I have a Mac Mini and i have a HP keyboard and i can't fully reset my Mac because i don't have a Apple keyboard so i was wondering if i can reset my Mac using the Find My IPhone app from my IPhone and erase it from there?
  • Mac Mini Vs Windows 8 Computer? I have an old windows xp computer. It's going to die soon, I just know it. I want to get a Mac Mini, we have 2 iPads and a few iPods, and might get a few iPhones. We're well integrated with Apple. I watched the keynote and I'm excited for the continuity features. I want to get a Mac, but we might end up getting a windows pc. I like windows 8' but I prefer a Mac. What should I do?
  • Looking for a good video editing program for mac or windows that is free? I recorded a song and light show that my friend's band played and that I programed for. I took the video with my iPhone sitting on an elevated box, so it's a still shot of the whole song. I'm looking for a program that I can make the colors a bit richer, make the video a little lighter, and add some kind of filter or effect to the video to make watching the video more interesting before I upload it to social media sites.
