Sim Free Mobile stolen How do i Block/Lock it (I have the IMEI number and receipt)?

Hi, I bought a Samsung Note 2 about a month ago, and i was stupid enough to leave it with a friend by mistake (or so i thought a friend) this "friend" lives about 100miles from me (UK) and is about £60 petrol/train fair to get to it, So i figured id collect it when i could, till i realised, this "Friend" has NO INTENTION Of giving it back.

I asked someone what they think i should do about it, and they told me they think sim free phones can't be blocked? This can't be right!

As of now, i don't know what number is in the phone, but i believe it is either o2 or GifGaf, if this helps.

I also have the receipt & IMEI number. I didn't register the phone, but i have the salesman who sold it to me, and my bank statements (plus receipt) to back me up.

I'm not as worried about getting the phone back as i'm for getting it blocked, as the phone is covered under my insurance so i'm sure i can get a replacement right? But I want the phone blocked, they can't get away scott free with a brand new phone that i paid £500 for.

I bought it to use once my iphone contract ran out next month. And now i feel like i've been used.

SO Please, SOMEONE TELL ME HOW I CAN BLOCK THIS PHONE T. T (Sim Free)

Added (1). Hi, I called the salesman/storeowner he has told me also he doesn't know if sim free phones can be blocked.

Yes it can be blokes cause it is the phone that gets gets blocked not the sim ring up how you bought it off them them it been stolen hue the imei number and they will block it for you

The company you bought it from can contact the company who controls the IMEI database directly, and get them to block it on your behalf. They will have a record for the sale, along with the IMEI number, which you also have yourself. Go to the store you bought it from and explain what has happened. They will make the necessary phone calls and get this done for you.

As for your insurance, they will not pay out until you get the original phone blocked, so there's little point making a claim until this is done, although you should notify them as to what has happened. They may not pay out anyway, as it was left at a friend's house, so you know where it is. It doesn't matter how far away from it you are; the fact that you know its whereabouts is enough to make the insurance company think twice about the claim.

Have you tried the site below? Register your phone there, using the IMEI you already have, then block it. It would be useful to let the store salesman know about this site too, so he can help other customers with this problem in the future.
