Smart phones better than iPhone 5 with ios 7?

I wanted an HTC One but my mom said I couldn't get another phone until she got her new iPhone this fall. Should I just get an iPhone too or will there be anything better to go for? As long as it doesn't frustrate me too much with lack of capability, it'll work. I haven't really considered price but I just wanted to know what the fastest phone with camera and best sound quality is.

Added (1). I have at&t. I have an htc inspire right now and it has so many abnormal resets, freezes, and it no longer views message-received photos as of a year and a half ago.

"Lack of capability" the iphone is the easiest phone you can get and the ONLY phones with iOS. You want a good phone get an android. My samsung galaxy s3 blew away my iphone, I don't plan on upgrading anytime soon.

It totally depends what you're after… If you've used an iPhone before and have bought apps for it, then it might be worthwhile sticking with iOS for the time being. If you're hooked into a lot of Google services, such as Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive etc, then it might be worth considering an Android device. The best android on the market right now is the Samsung Galaxy S4.   • Why is the iphone so much better than other smart phones? I'm not trying to start a fight here. It just seems like Apple has access to alien technology or something. I've been trying to help my dad with his Samsung stratosphere and the difference is staggering. Another thing worth noting is that any of my friends who have non iphone smart phones also carry their ipod touches around with them. That says something.
