Someone wants my MEID number?

I'm trying to sell my sprint iPhone 5s on craigslist. A guy contacted me saying he wanted me to send him the MEID number so he could verify it would work for his plan. He doesn't actually need this, does he? The only things that should matter at things like what type of phone it is and when it was purchased right? I read that it can cause problems if the wrong person gets ahold of that number. This sounds like a scam to me. Is it?

Yes, give it to him. He is going to verify that its not reported lost.

You should also wipe your phone also ahead of time so its no longer icloud locked. And unlock it through your carrier if your contract is paid off, tell them this too.

Does he need it? Yes, he is making sure than your phone has not been reported lost, stolen or is being financed. This is to PROTECT him from being scammed, as he does not want to buy a phone that is blacklisted or could possibly be blacklisted later, due to non payment of the account, the phone or ETF.

You on the other hand have no reason NOT to give him the MEID, unless you are trying to pull a scam. Make sure the phone is ready to activate, by removing any account logins, iCloud, iTunes, Apple ID, email, etc, then factory reset the phone AFTER you have removed/deleted all accounts on the phone.

  • Why is my iPhone number being displayed wrongly on my number? My number is X, but on "my number" settings, it's being displayed number Y. Why is that? Also, some people told me that when I call or text them, the number Y is appearing to them, not the number X as it should. On the other hand, if I call the number X, my iPhone rings normally, but the same thing doesn't happen when I call number Y.
  • Why is mobile sending number different to my number? I recently bought an Iphone and did a sim swap so I could keep my phone number. Everything has been ok. However, when I send an imessage it shows the recipient a different number to mine. I don't think this happens when I send a SMS. Presumably it's the original number for the new sim? Why is this?
  • Switching number from Verizon to Straighttalk AT&T. How to keep my old number? Right now, I have a Verizon noncontract phone. I'm buying an iPhone 4 from a friend which is on the Straighttalk AT&T micro sim plan. I'm moving to the Straighttalk AT&T plan and need to know how to get my number changed over and where to get a new micro SIM card from.
