Sound on iphone not working?

I have an iphone 4 and my sound isn't working with or without headphones in.
it comes up with a funny icon like the ringtone but there are no bars, how do i fix this?

Added (1). I've also cleaned out where the connecter goes and that was full and then the sound comes back but almost staright away it goes again. Please please help me.

Have you went to your sound settings? It may have been turned down.
Have you turned it off and on?
Do called on speaker work?
If not even calls work after trying these things I'd take it to be fixed.

Sometimes the earphone hole gets dirty and the phone still thinks you have earphones in when you don't. Try plugging in the earphone a few times and see if that makes the sound come back. It will need to be cleaned

  • YouTube sound not working when iphone is on silent? I've had my iPhone 4 for over a year now, and I've never had this problem. It started today, if I try to watch a YouTube video without headphones and the phone is on silent, there's no audio. But if I turn the ringer on there's audio. Obviously I've looked at the volume levels, and they're up. Like i said its only started today and it's very frustrating!
  • Why is my iPhone's left speaker (for sound) not working? I had recently damaged my phone by dropping it on pavement (approximately 3 feet), and it slid about 20 feet. Just today, I noticed the the left speaker on the bottom of the phone is not working. I have a feeling that it's not working because of the impact of the phone falling (I had a snap-on case at the time).Is there any way for it to get fixed without replacing the whole phone?   • What do i do if the sound for my videos on my iphone is not working? Whenever i make videos, there's no sound present. But when i record voicenotes, or listen to music the sound works, it just doesn't work for recording videos anymore. What is wrong?
