Can I track my laptop even when it isn't connected to internet?
I have a 2016 MacBook and it was recently stolen, I was wondering if it was possible to track it even if the "thief" wasn't connected to the internet. Plus I don't have any extra anti theft things installed. But it is installed on my cloud so I think I should be able to view it on my iPhone…
Without software and if it is not connected to the Internet, no way you will ever find it.
Look on places like Craigslist or Ebay for your model, the thief may try to sell it. Also, since it is stolen, report to the police with the serial number. Local pawn shops usually have to check for stolen goods, and unless the police gives them a list with your machine on it, they will never know it is stolen.
The "cloud" is useless, especially if the thief re-installs the operating system…
Log into icloud and lock it down and yes should be able track live as cmos battery power will run the antitheft and triangulate using public and peoples home Wi-Fi signals when it's turned on and i answered previously but it all depends if you linked to icloud, i assume so? You have reported it and also used icloud settings accordingly? Icloud will render as gd for parts only as to get it running again a fresh install or change of drive would fail… Only way around is an unlocked mobo which not really a viable option… It does not specifically need be connected to a Wi-Fi network as such to locate
Nothing you can do until it's connected to the internet. Ignore Paul, he's got absolutely no idea what he's talking about.
Yeah I don't know what Paul is on, but you can't track your devices if there's no Internet connection of some sort that your laptop can connect.
The image is for paul.
If you read this paul, I'm using a 2007 13" MacBook with OS X Lion, fully updated and signed into my iCloud account. My Mac was disconnected from the Internet as I tried to locate it through iCloud. And yes, I did exactly what you said to do; it's been over 30 minutes and still nothing. And I do have 3 strong wireless network in my house, plus 1 or 2 from neighbors.
No. It has to be connect to the Internet to send out a signal so that it can be found.
