Verizon Iphone Unlock to Use in Canada?
My boyfriend purchased me a Verizon IPhone 4 off of eBay as an early Christmas gift. Now that we've ordered the phone and paid for it and it is being shipped, we're being told by MANY people that this phone will never be able to be unlocked for use in Canada. I'm worried that we just got screwed out of our money for this phone as we will never be able to use it. I'm wondering if anyone can fill me on if this phone will work in Canada (I'm currently with Virgin Mobile, pre-paid contract… But would be willing to switch to another pre-paid plan with another company if it means being able to use this phone!)
Please help, we want to figure this out so we can order another phone if we have too!
First of all, Virgin mobile phones will work on their network but Verizon iPhones will not. Verizon will allow you to take an iPhone to another CDMA carrier like they may use in Canada. It may be able to be used on Bell mobility or telus which also uses CDMA, however, I doubt they will let you use outside equipment. You can't use an iPhone 4 on a gsm network. There's no SIM card, and it's not compatible with that technology.
You can't use the phone in Canada. The Verizon iPhone 4 is a pure CDMA phone. It can't use a sim card.

I live on the east coast and I believe the same time zone as Montreal. Will there be roaming charges? I won't be making any phone calls just sending texts if that makes a difference. I use Verizon and have an iPhone 4s.

I have a new iphone 4S with Verizon I just got in August 2012, and the contract doesn't end for another year, however we're moving to Canada in about a week. Will the cost be the same if I use my iphone there, or is there a way I can trade it with an unblocked one, or not pay international fees?
