What age should a kid get an iPhone?

I've seen 6th graders carrying iPhones all over the place, and was wondering what age to get an iPhone. Please tell what grade.

When the child can use the phone independently & the parents choose to buy it.

It is okay to have an iphone in grade 6. I would suggest it that one should have an iphone in grade 8. However it depends on which country you are in. For example, if you live in US, you need a cellphone like iphone for safey purposes, you might be followed and it might help you call the police. However, in countries that are still developing like india, you don't need an iphone because most people don't have it and you might get jumpedd over because of the iphone.

I don't think it really matters as long as the kid's parent is willing to pay for it and lets them have the iPhone. Personally, I don't think anyone in a lower grade then 6th or 7th grade should have one because there's no way they're gonna be careful enough with it. By 6th grade I think it will be okay because thats about the time I got a nicer phone with internet and stuff and I was EXTREMELY careful with it. I think the parent just needs to trust that their child isn't gonna misuse the phone since its higher technology and easier to do stuff like look up things on the internet that they shouldn't be. Once they trust that they're kid will be careful with it and realize that this phone is very fragile, then I think they should let them get it.

When he or she can pay the bill himself, and/or buy the phone himself. That's a big purchase, and it should be appreciated. There are other phones out there besides the newest and greatest smart phone.

I don't think the grade matters. They should get them when they're responsible enough to have one. I've seen kids in high school and college kids with iPhones who drop them all the time, break them, and say they need to get a new one. They use it in class and get it taken away by their teachers. They use it to "sext" their peers. Those people never learn.
Basically, a kid is ready to have an iPhone when he or she is ready to know the consequences of having and using it. They should understand that iPhones (or anything expensive) aren't cheap. They should understand that money isn't easy to come around sometimes. Age doesn't matter. A kid (even adults) needs to be responsible first.
A 6th grader with an iPhone, that's a bit ridiculous. I'm 20 and I have a regular non-smart phone. Perhaps once the kid is in 9th grade, it would be more understandable.

I personally think that no kid needs an iPhone. However if every kid was getting them I would say when the parent felt they were responsible enough to have one and it shouldn't be their first phone in case they are just no responsible with a phone. I also think no kid needs one before the end of middle school or high school when they may be doing after school activities. I didn't get a phone until the Christmas of my freshman year (14) and got and iPhone for my 16th birthday.

Whatever age they are mature enough and can do work around the house or an actual job. I have no issue with giving a 13 year old a smart phone as long as they are mature and work hard at school and do a lot of chores.

I think kids should get phones when they are in 7th grade so they are not so overwhelmed. They should be responsible enough to not break it at that age. No kid should get one in 5th grade or lower because they are too young in my opinion.

I think you should get your child an i phone when they start middle school because it is really the beginning of having a real social life.

I think grade 4 and up only because if your parents are separated you should have a iPhone to contact with your parents.

I think anyone can have it as long as the parents set limits and know the kid will be safe, like they won't let random people follow them! I'm in the fifth grade and have seen many people in my class with phones! I want one because everyone well I do, and everyone else has one so i don't know I wanna fit in!
