What are the iPhone restrictions for travelling abroad?
Hi:-)
I'm travelling to Italy tomorrow for a week. I have an iPhone 4S.
I'm looking for a detailed explanation of dos/don'ts with my phone throughout the entire journey - particularly regarding the Internet.
Include:
- Travelling on a plane to Italy.
- What to do with it once I get to Italy.
- What to do during my trip.
- Travelling home.
More info the better, and the main focus of this is No Surprises On Phone Bill!
Hoping your phone is unlocked, once you get there, buy a local SIM for your usage and/or run off Wi-Fi (get the vonage app so you can call back to the US for free). You'll get iMessage for free with a wi-fi connection, but I'd avoid text otherwise. You can't use the phone on the plane, unless they offer wi-fi access, (or go into airplane mode, check with your flight crew so you don't get into trouble) Make sure you have an international power plug that will work there, the AC plugs are different.
Check out the iPhone website.
- Will my iPhone change time travelling to the Philippines? I just want to know if my iPhone alarm or time will change automatically to Philippine time? I'm travelling to the Philippines next week and I have to take my birth control with me. I usually take my pills at 10PM (Vancouver time). I don't know what time to take it in the Philippines. I usually put an alarm on my phone to remind to myself to take my pills. But i don't know if it will effect my phone when I travel.
- Which camera should I bring? Studying abroad in London/Travelling Europe? I have these options: a DSLR Nikon camera, a Sony videocamera (small), or should I buy a digital camera? In addition, i'm bringing my iPhone 5s, which has pretty good quality as well. I'm just afraid I'll lose my DSLR, should I buy a digital camera or take the small videocamera? Suggestions? I will be studying for a semester in London and traveling to a few countries in Europe as well.
- What to do with iPhone while travelling abroad? I'm going to Italy for vacation and I want to bring my iPhone without getting massive phone bills. I'm not gonna call or text but only use it for music, pictures and Wi-Fi. Am I safe if I just turn off data and put my phone on airplane mode?
- What should I turn off/on on my iPhone when travelling abroad? I'm going to Germany for a few days and I'm taking my O2 Pay and Go iPhone5 but what settings should I turn on or off so I don't get charged a stupid amount or use all my top up money? I'm guessing data roaming should be turned off for a start. I do want to post pictures while I'm there though too, should I only do this when I can find a Wi-Fi signal to connect to?
