Android is more customizable, and usually faster than iPhone. Android usually has a faster processor and more ram (depending on the phone of course), while iPhone is more user friendly and has better battery life than some Android phones.

Android runs android software and iphone runs Apple.
Windows phone run windows software similar to the apps part of windows 8.
They all work pretty much similarly, just lots of variations.

Android is open source and free and iOS is closed. Both have advantages and disadvantages like - Open OS are more vulnerable to hackers (virus, malwares, trojans etc.) Closed OS like iOS and Windiows are less vulnerable. Open OS can be customised in many ways where as closed OS may or may not be customised.

Android is usually about a year ahead of Apple as far as hardware is concerned. For example the Iphone 5 was basically the Galaxy S2 when there was already the Galaxy S3.So if processor speed, amount of ram, HD screen resolution, bigger screen, and customization is what you want go with Android depending on the phone of course. The cheaper the phone the worse it is unless it's on a clearance or a sale. Iphone is very easy to use, runs very smooth and has great battery life. Plus it's smaller and for some people a little easier to hold in the hand. So if you want that then get an IPhone. All personal preference.
