What is the s for in newer iPhones?

The iPhone 5s hasn't come out yet but what does the s stand for? Like what's the difference between the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S? I always thought it stood for Siri but iPhone 5 already has Siri so they wouldn't need to make an iPhone 5s it would already be the 5s. I don't I'm just wondering because I'm getting an iPhone in the next month or so.

No such thing as the 5s because the iphone 5 already has siri so it'll be called something else.

The difference between the iPhone 4 and 4S was minimal. The S does not stand for anything specifically. Basically they took the iPhone 4 and put a better, faster processor in it. That allows you to play games smoother and launch apps faster. Other than that they added Siri and a few new apps exclusive to that phone like "weather" and "stocks". The upgrade from the. IPhone 5 to the 5S will be minimal.

May be for "speed". Not sure how but may be the 5S will be much smoother and speedier than the 5.It might have more RAM and processor than the 5. Not sure though.

I'm not sure why its an s after the number but all the s version is just an improvement from the last version

Either "speed" or "siri". But more likely speed.

With iPhone 4s, I guess they didn't want to name it iPhone 4 the second so they just came up with iPhone 4s.

Technically, 's' didn't mean Siri. There's proof because there was also an iPhone 3GS and the 3GS didn't have Siri. The 's', although I don't know the exact meaning, is like a more powerful phone, which usually has a better camera, is faster, and has one extra special exclusive feature that will boost the sales. Its simply Apple's naming scheme for the iPhone since the successor to the 3G came out, the 3GS.

3G, 3GS
4, 4S
5, 5S

That's it. Who knows at this point what the S may stand for. For the record the S in 3GS stood for speed & in the 4S it stood for Siri. As far as the 5S it may stand for scan, as in finger scanning which it has been rumored to get for a while now.

Maybe for "Steve" as in Steve Jobs?
