What is your favorite ballistics calculators?
I'm looking for a calculator that is very specific where you can add in your barrel length, caliber, bullet weight, shape, primer type, amount of primer, sight height, and of course the range that your shooting across to find out what amount of drop would be at that range. I'm not a math genius so i think it would be hard to learn a formula to something like that. The reason i said barrel length is because i don't have a chronograph to check what the velocity would be with that round especially when switching in between barrels. If there's one that i could download to my pc, view on the internet, or for ipod touch/iphone. I could make a chart if it's for pc or on the internet and print out basics and all.
Don't you need "rifle twist" as well? And what about the powder? And what about the harmonics of the barrel? And drag coefficient? I don't believe there's a ballistics calculator in the world that can take the basic recipe of the bullet and general barrel characteristics and compute the ballistics any closer than just taking published muzzle velocity and tweaking it slightly based on barrel length.
There are several ballistics calculator apps available for andriod. I use Strelok+ and Shooting Solution. Don't know about the other platforms.

Most ballistic calculators don't care about barrel length, primer type, amount of primer (what the hell is that?), or powder charge. The only thing that matters concerning all of that is the muzzle velocity, which can be easily measured with a chronograph. I like the JBM calculators. Since you don't want to buy a chronograph, you will need two ballistics calculators, and internal one and an external one. I have a chronograph so an external ballistics calculator is all that I need. My son downloaded a 99 cent external ballistics calculator for his icrap. I don't remember the name of it, but it works great.
Every ballistic calculator I've seen works from the bullet's drag coefficient and the muzzle velocity, in addition to weather, altitude, etc. If you don't have a chrono it will be difficult to be extremely exact, but you should get darn close (within 1"-2") using factory ammo and the labeled MV. You can then tweak your MV in the calculator based on real-world results at different ranges to dial it in.
iStrelok and Winchester make good free calculators for the iPhone. Hawke also makes a free ballistics program for your PC.
If you want to spend money on a calculator, Sierra Infinity and Exbal are very good for PC as is Shooter and Ballistic for the iPhone.
I use QuickLOAD 3.6 (currently version 3.8)
http://www.neconos.com/details3.htm
i have no freaking idea what kind of formula it uses, it works and it's pretty accurate.
It features internal and external ballistics calculators and simulators.
for twist/bullet stability I use Miller Twist formula, available online in the form of a XLS sheet. Twist really isn't important unless you get into wildcatting, building a custom gun, or working with saboted projectiles.
Quickload has a ton of options, most of which you will not use unless you are really into handloading. It is excellent software and well worth the cost ($172 shipped). Alternatively I think Sierra offers similar software for about $100.
I do not know of any online-accessible internal ballistics calculators. There may be some for smart phones, but I don't have a smartphone so i've never checked.
Online accessible external ballistics calculators, energy calculators, recoil calculators-

I use QuickLoad every time i handload something, i also use it to explore new loads, and recently due to the powder shortage, i've been taking it with me to the gun shop to see if less-than-ideal powders could be used with whatever i'm trying to load.
I don't know how other people work without having QL around… If i had to pick between QL vs printed manual, I'd pick QL. (not saying that is a good idea!)
- What's your favorite part about your jailbroken iPhone? I just jailbroke my iPhone and i know you can get almost every app for free but what your favorite or most interesting thing that you use your jailbroken iphone for?

- What would you do if you were watching your favorite show, and your 20 year old kid turned off the TV so that you couldn't watch it? I pay all the bills at the house. I normally watch AHS once a week with my kid. This week, she told me to go watch it in my own room. I told her my TV wasn't working and we would just have to watch it in her room. She turned off the TV so that I couldn't watch it. Then, she pompously pulled out her iPhone and proceeded to watch it on her iPhone. What would you do if this happened to you?
- What's your favorite song/artist/album? I'm adding music to my iPhone and I'm looking for some ideas. I like nearly all music so I'm open to all suggestions. Plus I'm interested to know what types of music other people enjoy.
