What's the best surround sound system for music?
I'm tired of having iHomes that break and/or have horrible quality, so I was just going to get a surround sound system that i can use for my iPhone. What are some good surround sound systems for mostly music and somewhat movies?
I have Sonos in my house and I LOVE it! It's awesome an the sound is amazing. Also try getting rhapsody with it because you get unlimited access to any music on any device for 8 bucks a month!
Bowers and Wilkins are the best if you have good money, you can also get Bose, or klipsch.

The guy who said Bose? Yeah, he's an idiot, Bose sucks, big time. Most of their money goes into marketing, not engineering or manufacture.
There's no one best system, and it would have helped if you had specified a budget range. There are great $600 systems and great $6, 000 systems, so without knowing what you want to spend, it's hard to recommend any specific gear.
Good brands to choose from include Yahama, Pioneer, Harman Kardon, and Denon for a receiver, and Infinity, Polk, JBL and Klipsch for the speakers. Go out to some specialist stores, not Best Buy, and give some of them a listen. Such a store may even have a good deal on the gear, but if they don't, there are Amaz*n.com and Newegg to name two good e-tailers who sell audio gear.
Just a few helpful pointers to know before you go buying.
If you get good big stereo speakers+subwoofer.
- Music is usually encoded in stereo and sound good on stereo speakers+subwoofer.
If you get surround sound speakers+subwoofer.
- Music with vocals will sound bad on 5 channel stereo, you can always mute the back and center speaker with surround sound and make it like stereo for listening to music.
- Since music in encoded in stereo, up mixing stereo into surround sound (dolby pro logic II=DPLII) will still sound like 5 channel stereo a little which is bad, but at least it's close to surround sound which is good for songs that have vocals in it.
- Music that is in stereo with no vocals will sound ok/fine on 5 channel stereo, but if encoded in surround sound will sound fine in surround sound too.
If you watch movies, you want the movies encoded in surround sound and you want surround sound speakers+subwoofer.
- Movies sound better on surround sound than 5 speaker stereo/2 speaker stereo=2 channels.
This is just something to think about because this could explain the bad quality for music.
- Would and Iphone vga adapter to hdmi work for surround sound? I have a connector for my iphone that connects from the charger port to hdmi, would this work to play audio to my surround sound speakers or would I have to get an Aux cord adapter?
- Where do I rent a surround system for a wedding? I'm getting married at Ashton Villa in August. I'm running low on my deadlines. I need to pick a CHEAP but good surround system that plays off of an iphone or ipod. Any suggestions?
