What should I know before getting in-dash Navigation?
I'm purchasing a 2010 Chevy Malibu next month and I'm wanting to install in-dash navigation with bluetooth. The reason being is I'm driving from St. Louis, MO to Portland, OR in August by myself and want to have the most reliable navigation. I don't want to have to read a map, since I'll be alone, and I can't rely on my IPhone navigation because I have Sprint and who knows when I'll lose service driving half way across the country. I'm not a fan of things mounted on my windshield or sitting on top of my dash. Hence the reason for in-dash. Since I've been researching different systems, I keep seeing lots of them saying the navigation works only with IPhone apps, like Garmin or Telenav. That would defeat the purpose of purchasing this. Are there any good systems with built-in navigation that does not require an app? It would be even better if I could find one that I could even program a specific route into. I also have to have bluetooth and one that I can plug my IPhone into. I want to be able to make wireless calls, direct Siri and stream audio while I'm driving. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Get a map, and no, i'm not being sarcastic.
You will want navigation for Portland. I have been through many large cities. Chicago, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, Milwaukee, Fort lauderdale and Portland was the most confusing. I highly recommend any Garmin, Magellan or TomTom portible unit for under $100.
Hang it on your air vent velcro it to your A piller, or someplace, but I believe you will be more satisfied than with the in dash unit.

Why not just spring for On Star! GM vehicles are supposed to be equipped for it already so no additional installation is required. Just activation. FYI most navigation systems do require a subscription fee, but none of them can unlock the car for you.
So to me On Star would be the best solution.
- Which iOS navigation app should I download for finding new dirt roads? There are a ton of dirt roads where I live at, but I want to find some new ones to ride. Anyone know of a good iPhone app that shows which roads are dirt roads (unpaved)? There's Navigation by Telenav, MotionX GPS app, a TomTom and Garmin app, etc. But I'm not sure which one would be the right one for finding dirt roads. Basically, I want one that actually shows you that it's not a paved road. Anyone have any experience with these apps or know of one that would do what I want?
- What should I know before I purchase a used Iphone? My iphone 5 finally quit on me and i'm searching for a used iphone of a later model. My carrier is at&t and i'm thinking of getting some version of a 6 or maybe even a 7. What requirements are needed for a used iPhone in order for me to simply transfer my sim card? If its even that simple, that is.
- What should I know before buying a second hand iphone 4? So I've found a good deal for an iphone 4 but the thing I'm worried about obviously is getting scammed. I'm pretty sure it's not a China product but what I'm worried is things like if the iphone 4 is unlockable or not, the IMEI is blacklisted(do i have to worry about this too?). - What should I know about India before I go there? I'm going to Mumbai for liposuction and plastic surgery and stuff. Should I be extra careful with my personal belonging? In Germany, one time I left my iPhone in a store, and some professor found it and returned it to me. I guess that perhaps this would not happen in India?
