Which digital camera to buy for beginner?

I ant to buy a digital camera as I took a new job on the cruise ships. My iPhone 6 it's not bad but I want to invest in a good camera to capture all the details.
I would like your opinion on which would be the best camera for a beginner that is user friendly. I'm pretty technical so would get use it pretty quick I think.
Having asked some friends they have suggested Canon dslr rebel. I have looked at the T5 but not really sure, thats why I'm here.

Don't get a digital, go for a camera good for photography

Here's an article that might help you:

It's a little out-of-date in terms of camera models but the overall information and advice is good and valid.

You will want a waterproof dSLR to be safe shooting beside the pool and on the beach.

They're all good: Pentax, Canon, Sony, Nikon. You don't necessarily need to buy a DSLR as the APS-C format mirrorless cameras are quite good. However, you have far more lens options with a DSLR.
I would say the best entry-level DSLRs are the Canon T series and the Pentax K50, then the D3xxx series from Nikon. The Pentax is actually a mid-level DSLR, but its price is at the entry point for Nikon and Canon, so you get a lot more for your money.

DSLRs aren't particularly 'user-friendly' and you'll get no better shots than you would with a top-notch compact (Sony RX100 Mk3) until you learn how to take full control of the exposure solution. Entry level DSLRs tend to be crippled versions of their mid-range cousins; currently I'd agree that Pentax offer best value for money in that area due to the weather-proofing and much nicer pentaprism viewfinder which you don't see on the top two until Canon 70D and Nikon D7100.

Canon T5 is a good choice to buy. Its a good beginner's camera. You can also look at Canon T3i or T5i.
Nikon also offers a good beginner level cameras like Nikon D3100, D3200, D3300

There are no bad DSLRs. Nobody makes any that are bad.

So, you can safely get any one you want.

Indeed waterproof would be a good idea.
